A good deed done.

So on my way home from work today, I got 'any spare change miss?' from a beggar under the bridge.

I NEVER ignore these people. I despise being ignored myself, and when someone is in the situation they are in, I think the most decent thing to do is to acknowledge that you are being spoken to; in my experience beggars are rarely rude to you if you acknowledge them.

I usually answer with 'I'm sorry, I don't have any change on me' and the majority of the time, this is true.

Cutting a long rant short (because here I could go into my usual rant about how I despise the benefit system set out by the government/my opinion on why homeless people are homeless, but we will leave that for another time...) I don't like to give money out to beggars because I have the opinion that they'll use the money for drink or drugs. I know this is not necessarily the right frame of mind and I'm probably wrong in most cases, but it's how I feel.

On occasion I will offer a soft drink or a sandwich instead. I believe that this is better use of my hard earned money, and I've never had someone turn me down.

On a day like this, where the sky is clear and the sun is burning down, with not even a cool breeze to take the edge off, I decided to buy a sandwich for the gentlemen. I asked him what he would like and politely he replied with 'whatever you are willing to give, please'.

It cost a mere £3 and he got a BLT sandwich, a chilled Oasis and a packet of crisps.

I have to admit I don't do this as often as I would like because I don't earn enough money to fund myself most of the time, let alone a stranger.

I know you probably aren't, but before you go thinking I'm bragging, I don't expect praise or recognition. I just like the thought that I may have made some one else's day a little bit brighter. Plus, on a hot day like today, who wouldn't want a nice refreshing sandwich and a cold drink?
We are a society that gives to charity willingly, which I think is incredibly generous and admirable.

So that's my good deed done for the day - what was yours? :)

A tired Becca with a work boo-boo :( (and chipped nail polish... oops!!)
Why aren't I a model?! Haha!

Hope you have a good weekend
